Pele

Pele (pronounced pay-lay), the Fire Goddess, is the goddess of fire, lightning, wind and volcanos and known here as the creator of the Hawaiian Islands. Often referred to as "Madame Pele" or "Tūtū Pele" as a sign of respect, she is a well-known deity.  Her traditional home is Halemaumau, the fire pit of Kilauea crater, here on the island of Hawaii.

We are currently experiencing an active lava flow from the crater...making its way to the ocean.  A couple of weekends ago, Luc crossed an item off of his bucket list by hiking to and ON the actual lava flow.  Pretty amazing!

The hike into this area is a long one and the terrain is quite challenging  as you can see in some of these photos.  Luc and his friends were lucky enough to get there early on a Sunday morning and drive in further than they are allowing people now.  Yes, they are actually walking on the day old lava.  It's quite an experience.
